It mostly depends upon your comfort level or experience level on cooking steaks. The following are some general guidelines for determining how done a steak is. We believe the only true way to determine the internal temperature of a steak is to use a quality meat thermometer and insert it into the deepest part of the meat to obtain an accurate reading. Before we move on, we would be remiss in not mentioning that a steak (or any meat for that matter) will continue to cook for a while after removing it from the heat. The outside will always be hotter than the inside because of the proximity of the heat. The heat then travels into the meat thus continuing to cook "for a while". The thicker the meat, the more it continues to cook after removing from the fire. Ways to determine internal meat temperatures:
Other: Medium-Rare = 145°, Medium = 160° and well done is 170° |
