Double Double Vidalia Burger

Doubling the good stuff is good!

Now, who doesn't like the sweet Vidalia onion, gently grilled to a golden delightful morsel of pleasure.  Add to that your very best cheese and you have a wonderful burger everyone will enjoy.

  2 pounds freshly ground chuck

  • 8 hamburger buns
  • 8 slices white cheddar
  • 8 slices yellow Cheddar
  • Dijon mustard
  • romaine lettuce
  • 3 Vidalia onions
  • 3 tablespoons butter cut into 3 one tablespoon pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • sea salt
  • freshly ground black pepper

Slice the onions about 1/4 inch thick crossways and separate into ringlets.  Place the onions In a cast iron pot/platter or other pan along with the butter and Worcestershire sauce.  Place over the heat (stove or grill) and cook.  Allow the butter to melt and stir the onions regularly so they don't burn.  Remove from the heat and keep warm.

Preheat your grill to high.

Make 8 burgers. Season both sides with the salt and pepper, as desired. Grill about 4-6 minutes on each side until almost done. Just before the burgers are done, move them to a cooler part of the grill, add your 2 slices of cheese (one white, one yellow) to each burger, close the grill and allow the cheese to melt. Place burger on bun and top with Dijon mustard, lettuce,a double helping of grilled Vidalia onions, and any other condiments you enjoy.
