Well for this purpose, we are going to consider it a large bird ready for the barbecue pit. Originally all turkeys were wild turkeys and were native to the many forests of North America. It was only later that the wild turkey was domesticated for consumption. Many folks still enjoy going hunting for the wild turkey. They are also relatives of the grouses family. Turkeys have an unusually distinctive, fleshy material hanging from the bottom side of their beaks. The gross, fleshy growth hanging from the top of its beak is called a snood. As ugly as they may appear, they are cool to listen to when they do their gobbling. If you eat only a little turkey throughout the remaining portion of the year, then we would encourage you to look at ground turkey for turkey breast sandwiches and turkey breasts for larger meals. They are low in calories and adapt well to grilling and barbecuing. We will have many recipes here to help you become more creative with your turkey preparations.
